Atomic Wallet Hack (2023)
The June 2023 exploit that drained ~$100M from Atomic Wallet users — root cause never fully disclosed, with strong attribution to North Korea's Lazarus Group.
On June 3, 2023, users of the Atomic Wallet desktop and mobile applications began reporting drained accounts across multiple chains (Bitcoin, Ethereum, Tron, BNB Chain, XRP, Solana). The combined losses reached approximately $100 million.
Atomic Wallet's official postmortem cited "less than 0.1%" of users affected and pointed to social engineering and malware vectors. Multiple independent investigators (Elliptic, blockchain researchers) attributed the funds-laundering pattern to the Lazarus Group. The incident raised broader questions about seedphrase-based wallets that store keys on consumer devices.
