Bored Ape Yacht Club (BAYC)
A 10,000-piece Ethereum NFT collection by Yuga Labs launched April 2021 — the defining "blue-chip PFP" project of the 2021 cycle, with deep brand collaborations.
Bored Ape Yacht Club launched on Ethereum on April 23, 2021. The 10,000 algorithmically-generated ape PFPs were minted at 0.08 ETH each (~$190 at launch); floor prices reached over 100 ETH in the 2021–2022 peak. BAYC became the defining blue-chip PFP project of that cycle.
Yuga Labs (the studio behind BAYC) used it as a base to launch MAYC (Mutant Ape Yacht Club), Otherside (a metaverse project), the ApeCoin DAO and APE token, and the ApeChain L3. Holder benefits over time included airdrops, IP rights to commercial use of the holder's specific NFT, and event access.
