Bybit Hack (2025)
The February 2025 theft of ~$1.5B in ETH from a Bybit cold wallet — the largest single hack in crypto history, attributed to North Korea's Lazarus Group.
On February 21, 2025, attackers compromised a Bybit cold-wallet signing process during a routine transfer to a warm wallet, diverting roughly 401,000 ETH (~$1.5 billion at the time). The heist exceeded the prior record (the 2022 Ronin Bridge exploit) by more than 2x.
US and FBI investigators attributed the attack to North Korea's Lazarus Group, which had previously been linked to Ronin and several other major exploits. Bybit honored all customer withdrawals and operationally absorbed the loss without freezing the platform.
