CometBFT
The Byzantine-fault-tolerant consensus engine behind Cosmos chains — formerly Tendermint Core, renamed and forked under the Cosmos Foundation in 2023.
CometBFT is the consensus engine that powers most Cosmos SDK chains: the Cosmos Hub, Osmosis, dYdX Chain, Celestia, Sei, and many others. It runs a leader-based BFT protocol with two rounds of voting (prevote, precommit) per block and ⅔-stake-threshold finality.
The project was forked from Tendermint Core in 2023 after a governance dispute. CometBFT now lives under the Interchain Foundation's stewardship and continues evolving — V1 introduced process-pacing improvements, with V2 targeting parallel proposal and votes.
