Cosmos Hub
The first chain in the Cosmos ecosystem, securing ATOM staking and (since 2023) acting as a Replicated Security provider to consumer chains.
The Cosmos Hub launched in 2019 as the first chain built on the Cosmos SDK and Tendermint consensus. ATOM is its native staking and gas token. Initially the Hub did relatively little beyond ATOM transfers and IBC routing.
Replicated Security ("Interchain Security") added in 2023 lets the Hub lend ATOM stakers to secure smaller "consumer chains" (Neutron, Stride). The Hub's roadmap further extends this into "Atom Wars" governance and a more deeply shared-security ecosystem.
