EIP-7691 (Blob Throughput Increase)
A Pectra-upgrade EIP that raises Ethereum's blob target from 3 to 6 per block and the maximum from 6 to 9 — doubling rollup data capacity.
EIP-7691, activated in the May 2025 Pectra hard fork, raised Ethereum's blob throughput. The target blob count per block went from 3 to 6; the maximum (above which the blob-base-fee starts rising sharply) went from 6 to 9.
The change roughly doubles cheap data availability for rollups without changing the blob format itself. It is one of the more straightforward scaling wins on Ethereum's near-term roadmap, ahead of the longer-term PeerDAS and full danksharding upgrades.
