Ethereum ETF

A spot exchange-traded fund holding ETH on behalf of investors — approved by the US SEC in May/July 2024 across BlackRock, Fidelity, Grayscale, and others.

Spot Ethereum ETFs were approved by the US SEC in May 2024 and began trading in July 2024 after final S-1 effectiveness. The approved issuers (BlackRock's ETHA, Fidelity's FETH, Grayscale's ETHE, and others) hold physical ETH and track the spot price.

A key restriction at launch: the ETFs do not stake their underlying ETH, removing what would otherwise be a meaningful yield component. Subsequent regulatory developments may allow staking. Inflows in the first year were significantly smaller than the Bitcoin ETFs but still material in absolute terms.
