Farcaster
A decentralized social protocol — on-chain identity with off-chain message hubs, popularized by the Warpcast client and the Frames extensible-post format.
Farcaster, founded by Dan Romero and Varun Srinivasan, splits social into two layers: on-chain identity (Farcaster IDs, FIDs, managed via an Optimism contract) and an off-chain message hub network that stores posts and reactions. Anyone can run a hub.
Warpcast is the most-used Farcaster client and the home of "Frames" — interactive embeds in posts that can run dApp interactions, mint NFTs, or vote. Farcaster is the leading attempt at credibly decentralized social and saw notable activity growth in 2024.
