HODL
Crypto slang for holding through volatility — originated from a famous typo of "hold" in a December 2013 Bitcointalk post by user GameKyuubi during a market crash.
"HODL" was born on the Bitcointalk forum on December 18, 2013, when user GameKyuubi posted a drunken rant titled "I AM HODLING". The post argued that traders were better off holding through volatility than trying to time market moves. The typo stuck.
The word has since been retconned into the backronym "Hold On for Dear Life" and is one of the most-used slang terms in crypto culture. It describes a long-term-conviction position-holding philosophy and a stoic response to market downturns.
