Kraken
A US-based crypto exchange founded by Jesse Powell in 2011 — one of the longest-operating exchanges, known for strong security history and FX-style trading features.
Kraken launched in 2011, making it one of the longest-operating crypto exchanges still active. The platform built a reputation for security (no major breaches in its history), strong FX-style trading features, and an unusually deep coverage of fiat trading pairs across multiple currencies.
Kraken settled with the US SEC in 2023 over its staking-as-a- service offering and discontinued staking for US customers. The exchange remains a major US venue alongside Coinbase, with a more trader-focused product line and stronger international footprint.
