Ledger
A French hardware-wallet manufacturer — the most-shipped hardware wallet brand globally, known for the Nano series and the Ledger Live companion app.
Ledger devices store private keys in a certified Secure Element chip; the host computer never sees the keys. Transactions are prepared on the host, sent to the device for review on its own screen, signed inside the secure element, and returned to the host.
Ledger ships a wide product line — Nano S Plus, Nano X, Stax, Flex — plus the Ledger Live app for portfolio and transaction management. A 2023 announcement of an optional key-recovery service ("Ledger Recover") drew significant community backlash for blurring the self-custody story.
