OP
Optimism's governance token — used in the Optimism Collective's bicameral governance structure with both a Token House (token-weighted votes) and a Citizens' House (non-token).
OP launched in May 2022 with airdrops to early Optimism users and prior Ethereum governance participants. The token sits inside the Optimism Collective's bicameral governance: the Token House votes on protocol upgrades and incentives by token weight; the Citizens' House votes on retroactive public-goods funding (RPGF) by non-transferable membership.
The Superchain economic model directs a share of Superchain revenue to OP holders. OP is also the canonical governance token for OP Stack chains in the Superchain (Base, World Chain, Soneium, and others), each interconnecting via shared standards.
