PFP
"Profile picture" — a category of NFT collections (CryptoPunks, BAYC) designed to be used as a user's avatar across social platforms.
PFP collections package a few thousand generative images with shared visual DNA (humanoid figures, animals, aliens) and varying traits. Holders set their NFT as their avatar on X, Discord, and elsewhere, which functions both as a tribal signal and as a public proof of ownership.
The category includes CryptoPunks, Bored Ape Yacht Club, Azuki, Pudgy Penguins, and dozens of others. Even when the floor crashes, the PFP serves as identity in a way most other NFTs do not.
