Points Program

A loyalty-style scheme that awards users off-chain points for actions like depositing, trading, or referring, often as a precursor to a future token airdrop.

A points program rewards users with off-chain points for performing desired actions — depositing funds, providing liquidity, trading volume, bridging assets, or referring friends. Points usually have no on-chain token behind them and carry no explicit promise, yet most participants treat them as a claim on a future airdrop, with the final allocation weighted by points earned.

Popularized by protocols such as Blur and later restaking and layer-2 projects, points let teams bootstrap activity without committing to tokenomics upfront. The model also draws criticism: points can be diluted, reweighted, or honored inconsistently at the team's discretion, and "points farming" often inflates metrics with mercenary capital that leaves once the airdrop lands.
