Ronin
An EVM Layer-1 originally built as a sidechain for Axie Infinity by Sky Mavis — now a generalist gaming chain hosting Axie, Pixels, and other Web3 games.
Ronin launched in 2021 as a dedicated EVM sidechain so Axie Infinity could escape Ethereum's gas costs and confirmation latency. It has since opened to other Web3 games (Pixels, Wild Forest, Forgotten Runiverse) and rebranded as a generalist gaming chain.
The chain is best known as the site of the largest crypto hack to date — a 2022 exploit drained 624M USD from the Ronin Bridge after a validator-key compromise. The bridge and validator-set design have been substantially rebuilt since.
