Ronin Bridge Hack
The March 2022 exploit that drained ~624M USD from the Axie Infinity Ronin Bridge — the largest crypto theft to date, traced to North Korea's Lazarus Group.
On March 23, 2022, attackers compromised five of nine validator signing keys on the Ronin Bridge and used them to authorize two fraudulent withdrawals totaling ~173,600 ETH and 25.5M USDC — roughly 624 million USD at the time. The hack was the largest in crypto history.
The US Treasury attributed the exploit to Lazarus Group, a state- sponsored North Korean hacking unit. Sky Mavis raised emergency capital, increased the validator set, redesigned key management, and reimbursed affected users. The incident reshaped how the industry thinks about bridge security and validator-set distribution.
