Sonic
The 2024 rebrand and re-architecture of Fantom — an EVM-compatible Layer-1 with sub-second finality and fee monetization paid to dApp builders.
Sonic is the post-rebrand identity of the Fantom network. Launched in early 2024 by the original Fantom team (with Andre Cronje), it ships a faster execution engine (SonicVM), sub-second finality, and a Fee Monetization program that returns 90% of gas fees on each dApp back to that dApp's developer.
The chain runs alongside the legacy Fantom Opera chain through a migration period. S replaces FTM as the native token. The bet is that direct fee-revenue to builders attracts higher-quality dApps than emissions-driven incentives.
