TAO

Bittensor's native token — issued via Bittensor-specific halving emissions to miners and validators across the network's subnets, used for governance and inter-subnet pricing.

TAO is Bittensor's native token. Like Bitcoin, it has a 21 million maximum supply with a halving schedule (every ~4 years) that controls inflation. Tokens are emitted to miners, validators, and subnet owners across Bittensor's specialized "subnets" based on their performance scores.

TAO is used for governance, registering subnets, and pricing inter-subnet services. The token is the unit that ties together Bittensor's market for decentralized ML, and its supply schedule intentionally mimics Bitcoin's monetary policy to support long-term holding incentives.
