Token Generation Event (TGE)

The moment a project first mints and distributes its token to the public — the on-chain birth of a token that unlocks trading, airdrops, and vesting schedules.

A Token Generation Event, or TGE, is the point at which a project creates its token on-chain and distributes it to investors, the team, and the community for the first time. It marks the transition from a pre-launch project to one with a liquid, tradable asset, and it usually coincides with exchange listings and the start of price discovery.

The TGE is a pivotal moment for tokenomics: it sets the initial circulating supply, kicks off vesting cliffs for insiders, and often triggers a long-awaited airdrop. Reading a TGE carefully — how much supply unlocks at launch versus over time, and who receives it — tells you far more about likely sell pressure than the headline valuation.
