WalletConnect
An open protocol for connecting wallets to dApps over a relay network using a QR-code handshake — now branded as Reown, with its own WCT token.
WalletConnect's 2018 protocol let mobile wallets pair with browser dApps via a QR code. The wallet and dApp exchange JSON-RPC messages through a public relay network; the user's keys never leave the device.
The protocol is now multi-chain (EVM, Solana, Cosmos, others) and has been rebranded as Reown for the SDK and developer side, while "WalletConnect" remains the network and WCT the governance token. Most non-MetaMask wallets connect to most dApps through this network.
