dogwifhat (WIF) launched on Solana in November 2023, built around a popular meme of a Shiba Inu wearing a pink knit hat. Within months it became the third-largest "dog memecoin" globally behind DOGE and SHIB, ultimately reaching multi-billion-dollar market cap during Solana's 2024 memecoin season.
The community pursued visibility plays — most famously crowdfunding $700k+ to project the dogwifhat image onto Las Vegas's Sphere display. The token is one of the canonical examples of pure-meme value accrual without product or utility.
